"Perovskite solar cells" to be popularized as "a trump card for expanding renewable energy" Japanese government sets goal of covering 10% of household electricity with them

The Japanese government has set a goal of having a new type of solar cell, which is thin enough to be bent and is seen as the trump card for next-generation solar power generation, account for around 10% of household electricity consumption.

Perovskite solar cells are light, thin, and bendable, so they can be installed on building walls and other surfaces.

On the morning of the 26th, the government held a public-private council consisting of manufacturers and others to set a target for their introduction.

The government plans to reduce power generation costs by subsidizing installation costs and increase this to 20 gigawatts by fiscal 2040, enough to cover the power consumption of around 6 million households.

This is equivalent to around 10% of household electricity consumption and the power of 20 nuclear power plants, and the government plans to support their spread as one of the trump cards for expanding renewable energy.
